1. Put your name on a list to distribute flyers in the community for programs and
events in the park, periodically throughout the year. Some kids can do this together.
2. Digging up invasive non-native wild artichoke thistle plants. (can be a one day event
involving many Packs or Troops together.) April through June are the best months.
3. Adopt the bird feeding station for one year. Supply the bird seed, fill the feeders
once a week and fill hummingbird feeders with sugar water. (a good one for Webelos groups)
4. Put your Troop on a call-out list for trail maintenance (small projects), especially
during wetter months, or following the wet season while the ground is still soft.
5. Adopt - A - Trail: Your Troop can adopt a trail and maintain it periodically throughout
the year. (approx every three months)
6. Adopt - A - Garden: Your Troop can an area to be seeded with native wildflowers and
weeded andwatered throughout the year.
1. Shaded picnic Ramada.
2. Orienteering course stations for Scouts.
3. Footbridge across dip in trail (Pheasant run).
4. Mount 15 nesting boxes and monitor through one nesting season. (label boxes, record
data, ID species using box, how many eggs laid, dates of incubation, etc.). Season is
March - September
5. Engraved metal display of mountain chain profile with peaks and canyons identified. The
metal plate is to be mounted on constructed fieldstone pedistal and located at a prominate
location and good viewing spot along the trail
6. Construct handicap ramps (details available after meeting withADA consultant. (for
trail access points) and tailoring parts of Oak Canyon Trail for handicap loop trail.
7. Computer skills needed to put together an illustrated plant and animal list for kids
and adults to take along the trail. Scanner would be helpful or copy machine if scanner
unavailable) Each should be one page display. Credit given to scout on sheets which will
be sold in the gift shop for about 50 cents by supporting association, proceeds go back
into park's outdoor education programs. (association is non-profit) (a good project for a
physically challenged scout)
8. Create stencil ("DON'T POLLUTE - WATER FOR WILDLIFE")
for spray painting on local community storm drains that drain into the park. Scout needs
to meet with each contact person in local development site (with Rangers assistance) to
get permission to apply stencil on each drain in community. Once granted, will apply the
design on each drain. Press coverage will be arranged to highlight this project as a
community/park/scout cooperative project.
9. Make weatherproof plant labels for Native plant garden in front of Ranger Station.
(approximately 30).
